Project Overview:
The Daniel’s Music Foundation (DMF) website project was centered around creating an accessible, user-friendly digital platform that aligned with the foundation’s mission of spreading the joy of music to individuals with disabilities. The goal was to design and develop a website that not only met the highest accessibility standards but also streamlined internal workflows for the DMF team, allowing them to focus more on their mission and less on navigating complex systems.
My Role:
As the Technical Director, I managed the entire development process from start to finish, leading a team of up to six developers. My responsibilities included scoping, architecture, solutions design, and ensuring that the project was delivered on time and within budget. I also negotiated the terms for a free non-profit Contentful instance, which served as the CMS for managing the website.
Key Contributions:
I led the development team in building a robust and scalable platform, ensuring that it was tailored to the specific needs of DMF. This involved working closely with strategy and design teams to align the website’s features with the client’s goals. I navigated client requirements, including integrating existing CRM systems and maintaining system familiarity to minimize the learning curve for DMF’s team. Additionally, I played a critical role in ensuring the site met the highest WCAG accessibility standards by working with third-party vendors for validation and leveraging our internal accessibility expertise.
Team Achievement:
A significant achievement was the successful integration of accessibility tools and systems, ensuring that the website was fully compliant with WCAG standards right from launch. This was a collaborative effort, with my mentorship playing a key role in upskilling our internal team members on accessibility best practices. Our combined efforts resulted in a platform that was not only inclusive but also a powerful tool for DMF to continue their important work.
Outcome:
The Daniel’s Music Foundation website was successfully launched, providing an accessible, easy-to-navigate platform that met all of the client’s needs. The project was lauded for its seamless integration of accessibility features and its user-centered design. The DMF team was thoroughly trained on the new system, allowing them to manage the site with confidence and continue their mission of spreading the joy of music without the burden of navigating complex systems.
